Visual Interest /

This test tries to determine how interesting pages of your website are and highlights pages which visitors might find text-heavy or boring.

Why do we test for this?

As a rough rule, the more visually appealing a page, the more likely casual visitors are likely to take onboard the message it conveys.  The common saying holds true, that a picture speaks a thousand words.

How do we test for this?

We compare the number of images on a page the amount of text.  We exclude small images and ones which appear on more than one page (we can assume these are more for layout).  If you have no unique images on a page, or the ratio of images to text is low, we flag that page as boring.

What can I do about it?

It may not always be appropriate, but try to make sure that all pages of the site have relevant imagery to enhance the visual appeal of each page.  If a page is particularly text heavy, consider breaking it up with imagery.
